The Merrick & Day Roman blind chain child safety breakaway device
We are currently stocking a brand new child safety chain breakaway device to help save children's lives.
DESCRIPTION: Clear plastic child safety breakaway device for rotary chain blind mechanisms. May be used to join Merrick & Day plastic or metal bead chains.
COMPLIANCE: Fully compliant with BSEN13120, BSEN16433 and BSEN16434 Child Safety Regulations when used with Merrick & Day rotary chain systems. It can be retro-fitted to existing rotary blind systems providing a Merrick & Day chain is also fitted.
USE: Ensure blind is fully lifted up. On the downward pull, cut the chain, just below the headrail. Use the breakaway to re-join the chain. This ensures that you are pulling against the breakaway when the blind is being lowered and not when the blind is being raised.
Note that it will not go through the rotary chain mechanism and needs to run freely when raising and lowering the blind.
ADVANTAGE: When using the breakaway device a tensioning device screwed to the wall at 150cm from the floor is not necessary to comply with the child safety regulations. However the bottom of the chain ring must be no lower than 60cm up from the floor.

Fairford Furnishings - quality curtains, blinds and soft furnishings Just to let you know - we fitted the two Roman blinds at the weekend with the new Merrick and Day chain joiners/ breakaways. The customer was delighted she didn't need the chain tensioning devices and the blinds went up and down easily with the 1:1 gear mechanism. Overall, a very neat and great solution!
Paula Wilkins: I received the chain breakaways today and have just refitted longer chains with the chain breakaways and the blinds go up and down with no problem and of course, I don't need the chain retainers! Would definitely recommend
